What is click parquet?
Click parquet is engineered parquet (also called multilayer or contrecollé) with a click system built into the plank. The floor consists of a real wood wear layer, such as oak, walnut or ash, on a stable base layer. You click the planks together floating on a flat subfloor with underlay, without glue, just like click laminate. That means you install a real wood floor yourself, instead of having it glued down by a professional.
The benefits of click parquet
- Real wood wear layer, unique per plank with a grain you can feel
- Floating install yourself with a click system, no glue
- Engineered build is more stable than solid and suitable for underfloor heating
- Can be sanded, depending on the wear layer thickness
- Adds character and value to your home
- Faster and more affordable to install than glued parquet
Click versus glued parquet
The big difference is in the installation. Click parquet is laid floating: the planks click together and rest loosely on an underlay, without being glued to the subfloor. That makes it a DIY-friendly and more affordable method, and the floor is also easier to remove later. Glued parquet is bonded fully to the subfloor, which gives an even more stable and quieter floor, but calls for professional installation. For most homes, click parquet is the smartest choice.
What to keep in mind with real wood
Click parquet is real wood, with all its charm but also its considerations. It’s more sensitive to scratches than laminate or PVC and needs periodic maintenance (oil or lacquer). In wet rooms such as the bathroom we don’t recommend real wood: go for a click vinyl with a parquet look there instead. For the living room, dining room, bedroom and office, click parquet is ideal. When buying, check the wear layer thickness: the thicker it is, the more times the floor can be sanded again.
