Why choose a PVC floor for the bathroom?
A vinyl or PVC floor is 100% waterproof, hard-wearing and stays comfortably warm underfoot, even in a wet room like the bathroom. Unlike ceramic tile, there’s no grout to worry about and the floor is easy to install yourself. For renovations, glue-down PVC is especially handy: at just 2 to 2.5 mm thick, it can even be laid over existing tile, provided it’s flat and firmly bonded.
The benefits of a vinyl bathroom floor
- 100% waterproof, even against daily splashes
- Warmer underfoot than ceramic tile
- Suitable for underfloor heating
- Available as click (new build) or glue-down (renovation)
- Realistic tile, wood or natural stone looks
- Hard-wearing and easy to clean with a damp mop
What to watch for with vinyl in the bathroom
At installation, seal the joints carefully against skirting boards and sanitary fittings so water can’t seep underneath. Inside the shower itself or under the bath, vinyl isn’t recommended: keep a continuous, fully sealed surface there, such as a plastic shower tray or a tiled walk-in shower.
