Why choose a PVC floor for the toilet?
The toilet is the perfect room to take on a floor renovation: small surface, quick to finish and visible result straight away. A vinyl or PVC floor is 100% waterproof, stays warm underfoot, is hygienic and easy to clean with a damp mop. Glue-down PVC is especially useful here, because you can lay it straight over existing tile, provided it’s flat and firmly bonded, with no demolition.
The benefits of a vinyl toilet floor
- 100% waterproof, even when mop water or splashes occur
- Warmer underfoot than ceramic tile, pleasant on bare feet at night
- Easy to clean, with no grout to discolour
- Quick to install yourself on small surfaces
- Click for new build, glue-down for renovating over existing floor
- Realistic tile, wood and stone looks
Tip: a clean finish around the toilet bowl
Cut the floor tight against the foot of the toilet bowl with a few millimetres of clearance, then seal that joint with sanitary silicone. That stops cleaning water or urine from seeping under the floor. For an even neater result, lift the toilet during installation and run the floor underneath it instead of around it.
