What is black parquet?
Black doesn’t occur naturally in wood, so black parquet always comes from an intense finish. By deep-smoking, black-oiling or burning the wood, the tone is deepened to near-black, while the grain and structure of real wood stay subtly visible. That’s what sets black parquet apart from a plain black floor: you get a deep, expressive colour with the liveliness and texture of real wood. It’s the most dramatic choice within parquet, for anyone who wants their floor to play the lead.
The benefits of black parquet
- Dramatic, luxurious statement look in real wood
- Deep, near-black tone with subtly visible wood grain
- Strongest contrast with white walls, brass or wood accents
- Hides scratches and imperfections exceptionally well
- Gives your interior a boutique or hotel allure
- Stable engineered parquet is suitable for underfloor heating
Tip: black needs light and some upkeep
Black parquet isn’t a colour that works everywhere. In a small or dark room it closes the space in further, so reserve it for rooms with plenty of natural light or good artificial lighting. And expect some daily cleaning: like any dark floor, black shows dust, lint and footprints faster. Preferably choose a smoked or black-oiled parquet where the grain stays clearly visible, as that texture makes the floor livelier and hides dust better than a plain black. For a deep effect that’s a little less extreme, look at a dark smoked brown or walnut.
