Why choose parquet for the living room?
The living room is where parquet is at its best. It’s the largest and most-viewed room in the house, and that’s exactly where the warm, natural look of real wood makes the biggest difference to the atmosphere. A parquet floor feels pleasant underfoot, ages beautifully and gives your interior a timeless character that laminate or PVC can’t fully reproduce. And because the living room often flows open-plan into the kitchen or dining area, you can extend that same parquet for one calm, cohesive whole.
The benefits of parquet in the living room
- Warm, authentic wood look in your most visible room
- Timeless character that raises the value of your home
- Pleasant and soft underfoot, comfortable to sit or play on
- Flows seamlessly into an open-plan kitchen
- Stable engineered parquet is suitable for underfloor heating
- Sandable, so your floor lasts a lifetime
Tip: choose format and pattern to suit your room
In a large living room, wide, long planks give the calmest and most luxurious feel, while a herringbone pattern adds character and class in a classic or stately interior. If you extend the floor into an open-plan kitchen, choose one continuous direction and preferably lay the planks along the length of the room or towards the light, so the floor looks longer and more spacious.
What to keep in mind with parquet in the living room
Parquet is durable, but heavy furniture and chair legs deserve attention. Fit felt pads under the legs of your sofa, cabinet and table, and for an office chair on castors, use soft PU castors or a protective mat. Choose your finish to suit your household: a lacquered parquet is easiest to maintain day to day and more scratch-resistant in the short term, while an oiled parquet looks more natural and can be touched up locally if it scratches.
